One of the things we’ve been talking a lot about in the Prosperity Partnership’s Tourism/Visitors Working Group is the importance of arts & culture as a driver of “cultural tourism”. We know that we have a really strong cultural community here with world-class cultural attractions like the Olympic Sculpture Park bringing people from all over the world.
Now we have an opportunity to showcase that even more next summer, with the hosting of the 2009 Americans for the Arts Convention. Interestingly enough, the theme is “The Arts in Sustainable Communities” and they talk about how “[t]he region is a rich reservoir to explore how creative communities grow and prosper in concert with technology, the economy, and the environment.”
Hmmm…who else focuses on the role of culture in economic development and environmental sustainability? Oh yeah. Us. (We rule!)
